Copyright Violations

A lovely fall day was spent at the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ. The sculpture park was founded by J. Seward Johnson Jr. - of the Johnson & Johnson family - in 1992 and turned into a non-profit foundation in 2000.

It contains some amazing artwork in a very attractive setting. Much of the art is whimsical, as is the garden's layout; allowing kids and adults alike to peer around a corner or into a dark copse, looking for sculptures.

A highlight was Johnson's impressions of Impressionist works - art in their own right, or copyright violations? You decide.

The New York of the commuter

"There are roughly three New Yorks. There is, first, the New York of the man or woman who was born there, who takes the city for granted and accepts its size, its turbulence as natural and inevitable. Second, there is the New York of the commuter — the city that is devoured by locusts each day and spat out each night. Third, there is New York of the person who was born somewhere else and came to New York in quest of something ….Commuters give the city its tidal restlessness, natives give it solidity and continuity, but the settlers give it passion."
--- E.B. White, Here is New York

Off the island

I ventured out to Brooklyn to take a course offered through Outdoor Bound, a company that offers day-trips and immersion into nature for New York's city-dwellers. Most photography classes offered are based in Manhattan and the guide said that this class was offered with the Brooklynites in mind; however, of the 7 taking the class, 6 had journeyed from Manhattan. The class concentrated on the basics of photography and gave time for everyone to learn the modes of their cameras - unfortunately, it wasn't what I expected and I felt it didn't teach me anything new.

Nevertheless, it was also a beautiful autumn day and it was the perfect place to be.
